What is holistic nutrition coaching?

Being healthy is more than just counting calories and vitamins. It’s important to take into account all the parts of your life and see how they affect your relationship with food.

How we connect (or not!) and communicate with people we love plays a huge role in how we view food.

Your professional life takes up the majority of the week. Resolving stress and time management issues in this part of your life can free up time and energy when it comes to food.

Self-care is something that most of us tend to skip. The truth is, to neglect yourself is to deplete the energy you want to have for others.

Exercise and movement are vital when it comes to physical and mental well-being. Eating well is only half the equation – we all need active lives to see results and feel even better!

Why work with a health coach?

Taking care of yourself is hard work.

It’s assumed that understanding nutrition and cooking should be a piece of cake, but it’s really not. It takes knowledge, practice, and a reason to keep going.

So, cut yourself some slack and know you’re 100% allowed to ask for help!

Everyone could use a guide for making behavioral and lifestyle changes to better their physical and mental well-being. Using a coach is a proactive way to truly take preventative care into your own hands!

Jackie_SinexquotesI find it easy and comforting to talk to Catherine about my health in an honest way. Having tried other programs that were more about selling a product or putting people into a formula, I much prefer Catherine’s approach to health coaching.Since our first session I was inspired to do more for myself, but I also understand that health transformation is a journey and her accountability is helpful. She was very organized with our video and call discussions and followed up regularly. I feel she sincerely cares.

Credentials + Education

Catherine is a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. There she studied over 100 dietary theories, practical lifestyle management techniques, and innovative coaching methods with some of the world’s top health and wellness experts.

Catherine’s teachers included Dr. Andrew Weil, Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine; Dr. Deepak Chopra, leader in the field of mind-body medicine; Dr. Mark Hyman, leader in Functional Medicine and founder of The UltraWellness Center , Dr. David Katz, Director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center; Dr. Walter Willett, Chair of Nutrition at Harvard University; Julia Ross, Founder and Executive Director of Recovery Systems, a holistic clinic that has helped thousands with mood disorders; Geneen Roth, bestselling author and expert on emotional eating; and many other leading researchers and nutrition authorities.

Before earning her holistic health coaching certification, Catherine earned a BA in Computer Science at Columbia University and an MA in Art in Media from New York University.

Approach to Wellness

Catherine believes in food as medicine. Truly, you get what you put into your body. We are a swirling mix of lovely chemicals and hormones, so it’s vital to have the right combination of nutrients (preferably tasty) to not only fuel us, but to optimize how our bodies run.

No one diet fits all. Whether you’re a budding vegan or full-on meat and potatoes kind of human, Catherine welcomes all and in between. The main goal is to find and explore what foods fit your physical needs best, as well as your moral requirements. No pressure to go one way or another here.

The more the merrier. Have a doctor you love but still need some extra support to follow through on his or her recommendations? Sometimes being told “you need to lose weight” isn’t exactly enough to get you started, much less maintain consistency. You can design an achievable action plan together, which could mean fewer trips to the doctor’s office and less spent on medications!

She encourages unplugging from devices to create fuller, richer experiences. Catherine is certainly no Luddite – she is an experienced web developer, but she believes we must shift how we view our phones and computers. We cannot expect to give ourselves the vibrant lives  we want offline if we’re too busy looking at screens.

She is not your typical alternative wellness professional. Though Catherine may be in the industry, her love of science is the foundation to helping clients gain an understanding of how food and nutrition affects them in a very real, biological way.

aboutcamquotesCat’s diversity of knowledge about health and diet approaches is a goldmine. I am someone who is already very aware of and proactive in my health choices, but health coaching has been the perfect complement to everything I’m already doing.

I learn something new in every session about how different areas of health–physical, emotional, and mental–connect for me, and I take away small, simple changes…And perhaps most importantly, she’s so much fun to work with, has an awesome sense of humor, and makes me feel totally comfortable talking about everything from de-stressing to better digestion.
